Description
This course aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of key cultural, social, and gender issues related to women’s lives and literary output in the Italian context. We will mainly focus on Italian women novelists and short story writers of the 20th and 21st century. We will study the context in which Italian women wrote, addressing the social and political developments in Italy. Special importance will be given to the marginalization of women writers in the Italian literary canon and critical perceptions of women authors. Finally, we will also look at issues and trends in contemporary literary translation, in particular, what is translated and who is the translator.
