Neca Florence

Admissions

NECA Study Abroad Italy Programs

Program participants do not necessarily have to come from an institution that offers a study abroad program.

The STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCE is a unique experience. It requires a great deal of individual stability and maturity as well as commitment on the student’s part to make it a rewarding one, both academically and personally.

STUDENT SELECTION is based on academic achievement as well as seriousness of purpose and individual stability and maturity. The GPA (Grade Point Average) is important and it is requested on the on-line application form, but it is not the only issue taken into consideration. NECA also considers other factors to understand if a student meets certain requirements, both academic and non, to study abroad.

FOR SPECIAL ENROLLMENTS students in their freshmen year or high school graduates can send their on-line application and request an appointment for a telephone or on-line interview (NECA is available also on Skype, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.) to verify if and how to accept them in the program.

STUDENTS ENROLLED in study abroad programs are expected to be able to overcome cultural differences and adapt to a new environment while doing the required work for their courses.
We kindly remind all applicants that NECA not any U.S. university or college is the institution to be contacted for any logistical issues. Although NECA students will earn credits through a transcript of an American university, students will be in Florence a NECA student not a student of any other academic institution.

NECA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability in their policies and Programs.

Transcripts will be issued after successful exams at the end of the program by Northern Arizona University, AZ, USA, the accrediting institution of NECA programs. It will include course titles and numbers, grades, and credit hours. This transcript will be sent directly to the student’s home institution for transfer credit.

Before coming to Florence students at their home institution should:
1) be aware of the proper procedure regarding the transfer of credits
2) verify that courses they will take at NECA fulfill their degree requirements
Although at NECA students will take 4 to 6 courses during a semester and 1-2 or 3 courses during the Summer program, it is best for students to meet with their school advisors and obtain approval for 7-8 courses (for semesters) or 3-5 (for Summer programs). Courses are generally approved as requirements for majors, but also as elective credits.
NECA is available to assist students with their enrollment procedure by contacting their student advisors.

NECA is not responsible if the student has not talked to his or her advisor and made sure if the courses taken at NECA will fulfill his or her degree requirements at his or her home institution. This is a student’s responsibility. NECA is available to help before the student’s departure from his or her home country. Before the student’s departure NECA is available to contact the student’s home institution to provide the student with individual attention and make sure that the courses taken at NECA will fulfill his or her degree requirements at his or her home institution. NECA guarantees students the transcripts, but it is up to the student to verify if the courses added to the transcript fulfill his or her degree requirements.
For LANGUAGE COURSES the student must verify that each course is at the required level for him or her to earn valuable credits at his or her home institution.

We kindly remind all applicants that NECA not any U.S. university or college is the institution to be contacted for any logistical issues. Although NECA students will earn credits through a transcript of a U.S. university, students will be in Florence a NECA student not a student of any other academic institution.

Before the start date of the Program, NECA will provide an Opening Reception and Orientation program so that students can get together and get acquainted with the aspects of the Program, with other students, etc. Students will also be informed on Florentine and Italian living and some information about cultural differences.

Student Assistance in Florence with a 24/7 emergency phone during the Program dates is included in the Program cost.

To be admitted in NECA Programs, participants must be covered by a Health Insurance at their own expense. The insurance is to cover:
1) MEDICAL/HEALTH PROBLEMS
2) EMERGENCY EVACUATION
3) Emergency due to Covid-19 (including costs due to stays in hotel or the like in case the student tests positive, etc.).

Most U.S.-based Health coverage does NOT include these.
Emergency Evacuation and Emergency due to Covid-19 are not necessary to request the visa (for students who need a visa) but they are necessary to be admitted to the program.

Students (not their university or college) are to give NECA at the orientation program in Florence proof of coverage dates with written proof expressly stating that Emergency Evacuation and Emergency due to Covid-19 are also covered for his or her entire stay in Italy.
Students may provide a photocopy during orientation provided that it is specified that Medical/Health Problems, Emergency Evacuation, and Emergency due to Covid-19 are covered. The proof of insurance must include the participant’s name and dates of coverage, that is start date and end date (covering the duration of the program).
NECA is not responsible for program participants who do not have any insurance or for those who have an insurance that does not cover all of the above.

PERSONAL INFORMATION
Program participants are also to provide NECA with personal information (i.e. allergies, special diet, and emergency contact numbers) once they have been accepted into the Program. NECA assures that this information will be kept strictly confidential, according to Italian privacy law.
