Description

This course is an introduction to the genres of Italian literature of the 20th and 21st centuries and its various movements. We begin with an examination of the avant-garde movement and on the divergence from the long-established Italian literary tradition. The course aims to identify the diversity of modern Italian literature and provide a comparative study with a survey of motifs, themes, and techniques found in contemporary European literature. Emphasis will be placed on the theory of literary genres and their essential components. We will also explore how modern Italian literature has evolved and embraced most modern literary genres.
