Description

This course provides students with history and background information on Florence and surrounding areas, such as Pisa and Sienna, which contributes to the city’s status as an international City. This is an experiential learning course that combines classroom learning activities with visits to historic and cultural sites in Florence and some in the Tuscany region of Italy. We will analyze aspects of the country and connections among the different national elements to examine how these traits form a national identity. The course will also compare the history, economy, art, sociology, culture of the Italy with that of the US. Students will be able to describe the city’s and the nation’s cultural values as shaped by family, religion, gender, race, and social class.
