Description

Masterpieces at the Accademia and Uffizi Galleries.

The tour outlines the major developments in Italian sculpture and painting. Beginning at the Accademia, home of the colossal David, learn about the making of the David and the life of Michelangelo, the epitome of the Renaissance genius. Discover how Michelangelo managed to turn a defective block of marble that lay abandoned in a courtyard for over 25 years into a masterpiece. See unfinished works by Michelangelo still bearing his chisel marks. Then at the Uffizi, one of the oldest and most famous art museums in the world, uncover the meanings behind works by Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael. Learn about the art of sculpture and trace developments in painting from bejeweled medieval altarpieces to the ethereal Venuses, to the Renaissance mastery of perspective. The tour features highlights of the museum’s collection – including works by Giotto, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael. Walking from one museum to the other we will pass through the beautiful squares, making stops to admire the landmark dome of Florence Cathedral and the magnificent Piazza della Signoria.
